Job Description:

As Manager – Cargo Operations, you will be responsible for the overall smooth and safe running of cargo operations in ICN, including supervision of our cargo GHAs, ensuring compliance with all safety, security and customs requirements, along with verification and approval of all invoices for direct operating costs.

This role is also responsible for supporting the negotiation and agreement of contractual and commercial terms of sub-contracted suppliers as well as ensuring adherence and accountability to their contractual obligations.

Operational Security

  • Accountable for ensuring all aspects of our operational activity for the Station adheres to the appropriate safety regulatory standards along with those mandated internally at Virgin Atlantic
  • This requires thorough, detailed and current knowledge of all IATA/IOSA regulatory standards and procedures.
  • Development and maintenance of good working relationships with the appropriate personnel, including Customs & GHAs.
  • Development and maintenance of good working relationships with the appropriate personnel within Virgin Atlantic’s Safety hierarchy (e.g. Mgr. Safety, Security and Compliance)

Operational Safety

  • Maintain a culture of “operational excellence” among the direct team and supplier partners, to drive delivery of a differentiated operational product.
  • To be accountable for the delivery of a technically compliant operation for the station.
  • Ensure suppliers are customs compliant and held accountable for any failures to operate within the bounds of their respective regulatory authorities.

Supplier Management and Operational Excellence

  • Comply with processes to performance manage all 3rd party suppliers in the station, to ensure operational delivery to agreed standards, including:
  • Monthly Self Assessments, plus following up on any non-compliances
  • Monthly supplier performance meetings (docuent and actions tracked)
  • Raising and responding to any ORs for the station, ensuring preventative and corrective actions are implemented and documented accordingly
  • Monitoring of station performance using the Operations Dashboard, including import milestones data, and addressing with suppliers as applicable

People / Team Management and Development

  • Accountable for the recruitment and development of the ICN operations team.
  • Accountable for ensuring all people management controls and processes are in place and effectively applied
  • Responsible for determining all required training for the team (regulatory and non-regulatory), and ensuring all training remains up to date

Cost Control

  • Support the procurement process for operational contractual expenditure, in association with VAA Procurement.
  • Ensure effective processes are in place to verify and control all operational costs for the country.
  • Leads the drive for efficiencies and cost reductions within area of control and boundaries of regulatory compliance and product standards.
  • Ensure effective and streamlined processes in place for accurate invoicing and sign off with suppliers and VAA AP dept. for BAU and ad hoc arrangements.

  • Extensive experience in Air Cargo Operations
  • Proficient in English, both verbal & written
  • Detailed knowledge of all local regulatory standards and requirements, including customs
  • Good experience with supplier management
  • Understanding of finance processes, including invoice processing, verification and approval
