Join a mission-critical team supporting the Air Force's aircraft sustainment and depot maintenance operations at Hill Air Force Base, Utah. The Air Force Sustainment Center (AFSC) and Ogden Air Logistics Center (OO-ALC) are seeking experienced Maintenance Machinists to support the 532nd Commodities Maintenance Squadron's landing gear, wheels, brakes, and overhaul mission. This work directly contributes to the readiness and sustainment of some of the nation's most advanced military aircraft.
The selected candidate will provide machining support for aircraft platforms including, but not limited to, the C-5, C-17, C-130, B-1B, B-2, B-52, KC-135, A-10, T-38, E-2, E-3, F-4, F-15, F-16, F-22, F-35, MH-53, and MH-60.
Position Summary
The Maintenance Machinist is responsible for fabricating, restoring, modifying, and repairing aircraft landing gear components and related systems. This role requires interpreting technical data, engineering drawings, and specifications to plan and execute precision machining operations. Candidates will utilize a variety of machine tools and precision measuring instruments to manufacture and repair components to exacting aerospace standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Interpret technical orders, engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and written instructions to plan machining operations.
- Set up and operate machine shop equipment, including:
- Lathes
- Milling machines
- Grinders
- Computer Numerical Control (CNC) equipment
- Related machine shop tools and equipment
- Fabricate, restore, modify, and repair aircraft landing gear components and assemblies.
- Perform machining calculations involving dimensions, tolerances, feeds, speeds, tooling, and material requirements.
- Utilize precision measuring instruments to verify compliance with engineering specifications and close-tolerance requirements.
- Select appropriate materials, tooling, parts, and equipment necessary to complete assigned tasks.
- Fit, assemble, and verify the functionality of machined components within landing gear systems and assemblies.
- Apply knowledge of metal properties and machining processes to support depot-level aircraft maintenance operations.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable technical orders, quality standards, safety regulations, and work instructions.
- Support overhaul and repair activities for aircraft wheels, brakes, landing gear, hydraulic, and pneudraulic systems.
Minimum Qualifications
- Active Secret Security Clearance or ability to obtain and maintain one. This is required at start.
- Formal machinist apprenticeship, vocational training, military technical training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience operating conventional and/or CNC machine tools in a manufacturing, maintenance, repair, or depot environment.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals, and specifications.
Personnel will be given PPE.
